WHAKAPONO 20 WEEK 3

These past weeks our tamariki have been learning to write persuasive speeches with an Introduction, body and conclusion. Presentation and delivery to an audience. Use of eye contact, relaxed stance and variety of space with facial and body gestures.

They needed the message of their speech to be clear and concise and the audience needed to be 'hooked'.

Was it effective for the judges and was their delivery with good volume. 

Our team had to choose the two high scored participants to go head to head with 10 others in the semi-finals. The semi-finals were up against year 5 as well, it was going to be a amazing competition.

In Whakapono 20, Angelina Dalcielo and Jada-Jess won their positions.

Angelina wrote 'Should you follow your dreams' and Jada-Jess wrote 'Why students should bring cellphones to school?'

After the Judges who were Miss Barnes-Graham and Mr Naidoo deliberated who would win from their scores, only 3 children would be chosen from the year 5 and year 6 semi finalists and they would go into the finals. The children who were won their positions for finals were Angelina W20., Gizelle (W17) and Nora (W18).

So they had to go away again and with the feedback given prepare for the finals.

Now the FINALS... it was going to be a good morning. We had Miss Paeriki Johnson (Principal of Rongomai School OTARA) as a guest Judge and our beautiful Miss Kelly Turu as a judge.

The morning was filled with intensity and fun. Lots of singing and appreciation of our speakers.

So at the end of the FINALS... Our Senior Speech Finalist is NORA CAFFERY.

Angelina accepted her defeat by giving her big hugs and knowing that she will always have intermediate or collage to have more chances of winning.

CONGRATULATIONS ANGELINA you are a great role model and Whakapono 20 adore you.

WHAKAPONO 20

Week 2
Kia ora and Fakalofa lahi atu

This week we have been still working hard in our reading and writing and maths.
In reading we have been learning about the jigsaw effect.
The effect is having all the groups work on pieces of a topic and come together as a group and put the information together. They were able to work independently and then work collaboratively.

In Writing we have been working hard on our speeches. Learning to present their speeches using good posture, eye contact, and engaging the audience.
Next week  he class will be presenting their speeches to their teachers and the two high scored children will be in with the finals and present in front of our judges Miss Turu and  Pae (Principal of Rongomai School)
So watch this space next week.

And our biggest challenge this week was practising our Dance for our production. Not only to dance but to be quiet while waiting and walking on and off the stage with the given time.
We can't wait til we perform in front of our families.

And lastly we had a production team come in to visit us.

King George has lost the plot! In his never-ending quest to build bigger palaces, giant walls and enormous statues of himself he has raised the Land Far Far Away tax rate to 101%! Jack and Jill can’t afford to get a pail of water, Little-Bo-Peep has to sell her sheep, and even the Princess is so hungry she ate the pea.

When even the bravest of Knights are too scared to stand up to him, the Land Far Far Away cries out for a hero to put a stop to the madness of the King.

Luckily their cries are heard by a mysterious red hooded figure with a bow and arrow, a basket of goodies and some very unlikely ‘Big Bad’ backup.

As well as a performance that will have you laughing all the way through, the play will challenge your students to think about traditional gender roles, bravery and standing up for what's right.

Niuean Language Week CLASS CHALLENGE: BLOG about ‘making fresh coconut cream’

ITEMS REQUIRED

• Brown coconut
• Large plastic bowl
• Coconut scraper
• Muslin cloth (prefered) /tea towel

Whakapono 20 accepting the challenge with our buddy class.

We had the privilege of having Mr Sagote come in and share his expertise with our classes. They thoroughly enjoyed tasting the juice, to scraping the coconut... (We used the coconut milk to put in our laisa at home.. Popo alaisa was made..)

         

                 

      

TERM 4

Welcome back Whakapono 20 to the last of the term. We have so many things on this term, We have our Whole school live performance in week 4. We have been practising very hard and making costumes so we are excited to perform in front of families and friends. We also have Auckland Live 'Lets Dance', Graduation, saying goodbye to our Year 6s, Parnell Pools and sports tournaments for the children who have put their hand up to play.

HATS are compulsory this term so we need to make sure we have our hats ready for this sun that will be beaming down on us this summer. 

PRIDE We need to continue using our PRIDE all the time. We have had a two week break and we should remember to use our PRIDE everyday now that we are back.
