WHAKAPONO 20 week 6

Talofa and welcome to Whakapono 20 blog. This week we have been training for our cross country and preparing for our trip to the city. The experiences we are learning in Auckland city is called 'Let's Act'. These are people who act all through out Aotearoa. We meet Aki, who stars in 'Shortland Street' she is only 17 years old. She said she started loving to act when she was at school. Our first session was with her and 4 others, they explained how to warm up by 'finding things' that made us look high, low and round and round. It was very cool to run and do things like roll on the ground and act like animals from areas of the world, not realising they were acting out things.

Our 2nd session was with a group of 4. They showed us 'Puppet Live', this entailed having a tv screen behind us, a tv screen in front of us and move to these two animated puppets on the screen. It was sometimes hard for the children to not touch each other as they thought that they needed too, but they just needed to stand on the line and move.
We then rotated to another person who helped us move more parts of body, we were very hot again because we had to run and jump. Our next rotation was with another person who made us sit in a circle and do small acting parts by introducing our given 'thing'.

Then our 3rd session.... Did we love that session? Yes we did!! We were introduced to actors who were going to a play called 'Spind'a'rella. It was a rap, and all the children were able to partake in the play. By the end of the play they all now want to 'rappers'. They learnt that the people who acted, went to schools in south auckland; Nga Iwi, Bairds Mainfreight, Mayfield and Chapel downs. Most their ages ranged from 17 to 18, with one being 29.

We really enjoyed ourselves very much.
Here a photos of us on our bikes, training for our Cross Country, as we don't have to always run to train.
The rest of the photos will be of our day in the City. Thank you for visiting our blog.

WHAKAPONO 20 WEEK 5

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG...
THIS WEEK WE HAVE BEEN REFLECTING ON OUR CAMP ADVENTURE.

IN WHAKAPONO 20 READING, One group used the text to get their information to direct their learning.

WALT:Draw directions to Rowandale School from your home.
SC: I am able to sketch out my map with clear directions.
Kara was able to use the information from her text to map out her directions to school from her home. In the text, they had to map out their camping area of safe areas.

WALT: Create an acrostic poem about camp using descriptive language.
SC: I am able to use descriptive language in my acrostic poem.

This week we managed to get our buddy time in after all the extra curriculum activities our ILE have had. It has been awesome to be with our little buddies as they connected straight away with their big buddies. We have practiced our Buddy Dance with them and its a great success. They totally loved the beat and our boys loved the jumping action. We really can't wait for the end of the year to perform to our families.

We don't want to give away too much as we want to surprise our families with what we have for them.
Thank you for visiting our blog.

Day 2 at LAKEWOOD LODGE

Wake up call from Mrs Sagote at 6.30am to wake our eyes up... Yes we had survived the SURVIVAL of being in the cold and on the floor. What a long night, we can't wait to sleep in a warm room with a comfy bed in the dorms with our other friends.

7.15am we had our bags all ready to move into the dorms while the next groups who were going to SURVIVAL moved out of the dorms.
7.30am with breakfast of cereals and toast, after doing the dishes and sweeping, we all started preparing for our activities of the day.

Mrs Sagote's group was Kayaking. We had some children who were very nervous as they didn't know how deep the water was but they soon found out.

Josiah and Torian loved the challenge of racing each other, with Pouli and DJ not wanting to come out after learning to paddle fast.
Once they had finished they were able to jump off the wharf into the water before coming back up to have morning tea then head back out for number two activity.

EXCUSE THE VOICES

Our group there was a lot of fear but our kids were able to conquer some of their fears by giving it a go. It was very windy and they were very worried they would fall. But overall they all gave it ago.. except our DJ.. he was very worried he would fall and no one would catch him.

This was a milestone for many of our children today... the fear they had from brushing the pony's to riding on them. The instructors gave them very detailed instructions of how to ride and who to act around a horse so you do not scare the pony suddenly.

And these are the days of today!!
Watch this space for Day 3
