My writing group have been working on their narrative writing. They are able to explain what the components of a narrative is, which are Title, characters, setting, action, problem and the solution. All these components create the Intro, body and conclusion to a story. This week we moved from Jack and the Beanstalk to a visual piece. Which was, 'The setting'. This was to give the group thoughts of what could be written in their story. So from using a brainstorm to pull out all the words they could muster, we were able to do the Intro of their narrative. They were able to place the characters into the setting with a title they worked together and created. Our next step for next week is to write the 'action' in with the problem. Once that has been accomplished they will be able to solve the problem they created. They were very excited about this writing as it was shared writing in the beginning to then write independently. Here are some photos of them in deep thought with their creative narratives and we hope next week they will use the 'writing process' to edit and then publish for all to read.
This week 6's assembly was run by Team Tumanako. The three students that stood out for the PRIDE certificate of RESPECT were Vira'ava, Evangeline and Jada-Jess.
Their outstanding Respect for our environment, each other and especially their work ethics stood out. As a teacher I thoroughly enjoy teaching them as they live up to the School values and our ILE treaty.
Thank you to you three for using your PRIDE and to continue to use it and model it to your peers.

Today the entire school went to Totara Park for our whanau picnic day. We lined up by the flag pole to organise ourselves into buses. We had to wait for the next lot of buses as there were a lot of us so Whaea Nahi cranked up the guitar and the the kids sang their little hearts out. Then we made our way to Totara Park, it was a quick bus ride, and when we arrived we dumped our gears by our designated tree and dressed for the pools as it was our scheduled time soon. At Totara park we had activities. We got to swim, play sports games and we even went for a short bush walk to the playground. At the playground we had heaps of fun mixing and mingling with other classes. When we got back to our tree after our bush walk, we had our lunch. What a wet/dry day we had today! It was a day to remember to see our whanau enjoy being with their our school at our picnic.

Learning about small ball skills.. Tennis has been one of the many highlights this week and its been a very fast one... Laughter.. kids hitting the balls too high, too low.. too far.. too close..
LEARNING INTENTION: use of a racket, holding the racket. To hit the ball forward then use a back hand swing. SC: Children will know they have succeeded when they are confidently playing tennis within the use of the court.

WRITING
This is shared writing done by GROUP 1. Our ideas were based from the story Jack and the Beanstalk... Next step will have the children using their ideas and and components of a narrative into their writing books. This is in their modelling book.
In WHAKAPONO 20 we have a timetable that supports the Independence of all WHAKAPONO students. The teacher of Whakapono has two Writing groups. Here is one of my Writing groups. They are learning about the components of a NARRATIVE. They have learnt the POEM 'Little Miss Muffet' and have identified some of the components.
Here is the WALT written up for them and we discuss it. The Success Criteria is when they can confidently identify the components of a NARRATIVE.

During this week we also had MEET THE TEACHER evening... In our WHAKAPONO hub we had an okay attendance of our whanau.. WHAKAPONO 20 out of 24 students we only had 7 parents greet their child's teacher and return their updated details to the office. We are wanting 100% and we thank the 7 families who were able to make it through that stormy, windy weather.
