WEEK 3 CAMP LAKEWOOD

The day has finally come... yes Camp Lakewood Lodge

We are so excited and can't wait to see whats a head of us.

We are here after the bus ride and all ready for the activities. We were put into groups and Mrs Sagote had group 3. We made our chants back at school so when the guys Mr Vincent and Mr Ben asked us to get together to make our chants we were all ready.
Our first activity was SURVIVAL... we spent the day in the wet cold rainy weather... doing all survival things... it was hard to take photos as Whaea Tania who is the Operations Manager said we shouldn't take our cameras or phones out as they might fall in the mud. But Mrs Sagote managed to take some photos of us. We had to save someone in the bush and fix them up with whatever was out in the bush. We also had to collect items that would attract a helicopter to save us with a sign SOS... that was cool says Josiah.
I'm cold said Kaitu, Kiara-Lee and Torian but they managed to finish the SURVIVAL with the Mud run.. So awesome to see all our kids make the most of camp...
Dinner was macaroni & cheese with salad and roasted potatoes.
Dessert with Apple crumble and chocolate ice cream.

After cleaning up we went down to the hall to play our last game for the night, we didn't do the Burma trail as it is really windy and we did't want to get hurt on our first night. We hope you enjoy reading our blog.
Watch this space for more.

Whakapono 20 Week 10

This week we have been making nga putiputi (flowers) with paper.
We had been learning about Harakeke as this is the harvesting to Matariki. Harvesting the harakeke to make putiputi or nga kete.
The children have learnt the many uses of harakeke.
Here we have the boys weaving, concentrating and enjoying our hands on experience.

The outcome of our Paper harakeke putiputi.

However... after making the putiputi out of paper, we then used harakeke to make more.

This is hung in the Hall, please feel free to come look at our work.

Continuing our learning of MATARIKI...
We learned about Manu Aute or Manu Tukutuku.
The significance of a Manu Tukutuku is to send messages to your ancestors or past loved ones to share how much they are missed as Manu Tukutuku when in the air are closer to Heaven to send the messages.

Our Manu Tukutuku will be completed with feathers with messages on them and hung in our hub.

The boys in Whakapono 20 were at first apprehensive to weave, but once they saw how it was hands on, most of the boys were able to complete their weaving. They helped the girls too.
Our Matariki study will be completed with a Hakari to celebrate the end of Matariki. As we will be heading into the holidays we wont be able to celebrate the closing with a hakari.

Here we are being read to...
We have been given free books from these sponsors.. we want to promote reading to at school and at home.. With these books, children get to hear the fluency and vocabulary of words the children may be unfamiliar with. We thank you sponsors.

WEEK 8-9 WHAKAPONO 20

In the ILE we used the states of matter in experiements and displayed our work for all families and classes to view our learning. We made Lava lamps, Ice cream, crystals, slime, Obleck, playdough and dancing raisins.
The children loved the hands on experiences of making things.
Congratulations kids you did awesome!!!

Phone shrills with the voice of Mr Vasau...
We hear him say, "All classes we have an ice cream for everyone, Finlayson School has so kindly called to say we have ice cream to share... so come out to the carpark and you make eat it when you walk back to class."
Whakapono 20 were so stoked and thankful.

Thank you Finlayson School

SEESAW QR SCAN
Whakapono 20 have been using the seesaw to produce evidence of their learning and understanding of general knowledge and recording themselves. They have been given the opportunity to record their learning of their science project and explain it and then having the teacher make a QR SCAN out of it. The children were very proud of their work and confident to record themselves.

Thank you to Mr Vasau, we were given tickets and the lucky boy who received them was Walter Tausala. A double pass to the Warriors game for you and your parent of your choice!!!
